Wrexham
City
Radio
Wrexham Premier Radio rebrands and re-launches as Wrexham City Radio on 14th February 2026.
Wrexham City Radio launches – for the love of
Wrexham!
We met up last week with Pete Howell who is one of the regular show hosts at Wrexham Premier Radio. Pete co-hosts their ever popular Monday Brunch show which runs every Monday morning 10 – 12 with fellow Visit Wrexham contributor Kerry Fisher as his co-host. Kerry should already be familiar with Visit Wrexham readers as she owns and runs Eyecadia based up on the High Street.
Pete and Kerry's show promises to always be uplifting and put a smile on people’s faces, and includes favourites such as ‘famous birthdays’, and word of the week along with popular music. Pete told us this week’s word was ‘hel straeron’ which is Welsh for ‘gathering stories or gossip’ – which is rather apt for Wrexham’s leading broadcaster. Co-host Kerry is also learning Welsh and they are also supported by Trystan their new Welsh presenter and DJ.

Wrexham
Radio
Origins
Pete explained the history of the station, how it’s evolved since first launching during lockdown to help connect the local communities across Wrexham - and how it has since garnered itself a loyal fan and listener base, with a popular app based and digital delivery format.
Ran as a not-for-profit CIC, the station initially relied on grant funding to begin with and now has pivoted to advertising and sponsorships to help keep the lights on over at their busy radio studios. The studios are located in the heart of Eagle’s Meadow Shopping Centre - overlooking the waterfall and Fearless in Devotion mural just outside their offices, supported by a growing team of DJ's and broadcasters connecting the whole community.

Re-brand
and
Re-launch
Pete explained to me that this year is very exciting for the station as they have been involved with many events across the city – such as supporting activities for the Year of Wonder festival and being actively involved with the City of Culture 2029 Bid support team.
As the station has built up both new momentum and focus this year, the team driving the operations – led by Paul Griffiths, Simon Robinson and Mark Jones – felt now was a great and opportune time to rebrand and relaunch the station.
Officially rebranded and relaunched this Valentine’s Day – 14th February – the station will now be known as Wrexham City Radio and also offers a sister channel called Wrexham City Radio Gold and other valuable support services for businesses looking for a professional studios partner.

Why
Valentines
Day?
Commenting about the timing of the relaunch, Mark Jones, Director said:
"Choosing Valentine’s Day wasn’t accidental. This rebrand is a clear statement of our love for Wrexham — the people, the places, and the stories that make this city what it is.
Broadcasting from within the city means we are part of everyday life here, not looking in from the outside.
Wrexham City Radio is about belonging, pride, and connection. This next chapter is about cementing our place as Wrexham’s truly local radio station, rooted in the community and built around the voices of the people who live, work, and create here.”

Upgrades
And as part of this relaunch the station is upgrading its transmission equipment to provide stronger, clearer signals across Wrexham and nearby surrounding areas.

Benefits
Upgrades will reduce interference and dropouts, extend coverage to more listeners, and support future growth. These improvements will also ensure a more reliable service that better serves the local community.

The
Future
With a day of celebration taking place at Eagle's Meadow on 14th February and so much planned we look forward to supporting and covering more exciting developments for this growing service for everybody who lives and works across Wrexham.
