Jose Simoes is the owner and founder of Lisbon Tapas Restaurant located on Church Street, based in the ancestral heart of Wrexham, overlooked by St Giles' Church. Jose first settled in Wrexham over 20 years ago having spent a successful career in travel and long had dreams of bringing a little bit of Portugal back to North Wales.
Located on what is one of the prettiest streets in town, Lisbon Tapas Restaurant first opened its doors back in 2018 and further expanded to satisfy growing demand back in 2022. It’s fair to say it has now firmly established itself as the go to destination restaurant of choice for seafood dining here in town.
Jose has always been a big fan of Lisbon City and had the vision to recreate his favourite aspects of the city right here in Wrexham, so that customers could sample and taste authentic dishes, complemented with the surrounding atmosphere and experience that he wanted to offer.

Proud to be the most well-known restaurant in Wrexham worldwide, Lisbon Tapas has previously had MasterChef judges dining and world-renowned food critics visit such as Jay Rayner, who each have helped catapult the restaurant name and helped highlight the restaurant to a growing worldwide customer base.
Used to taking bookings months in advance from Americans, Australians and Europeans – all planning their holidays to Wrexham, customers tend to make sure they combine their hotel bookings along with the finest dining experiences, helping to guarantee them a most memorable holiday.

Offering the best seafood in town, their tasting tapas menus are also highly recommended as they give you a wider range of available flavours and tastes served on smaller plates, with flavours that cater for all.
With a good wine menu and both Sagres and Super Bock served on tap – meaning you can get real Portuguese refreshment as well.

Jose, David and the team always provide exceptional experiences and if it’s your first visit, can guide you from their menu, offering their insider knowledge and suggested house specials. Generous in both their time and insights into their journey so far when we sat down together, we also saw they are in their natural habitat as and when they welcome new customers and visitors to Wrexham.

Lisbon Tapas is a special place and once you step in, you will love the place as well. Booking well ahead, and especially when Wrexham are playing at home, is well advised.
We look forward to seeing the restaurant continue to do well and win more awards, and go on welcoming both local and global visitors to Wrexham for a long time to come.
